Summary and Suggestions

Purpose of Practicum
-
Intercultural learning and communication
-
Improve teaching skills
-
Learn about the education in other country, such as curriculum, learning models, learning methods and school activities.
Procedures of Practicum
There are various activities carried out in this 3rd batch of sea teacher program. First, I was given the opportunity to observe a social studies class with my supervisor. This observation helped me to get an idea when I did the teaching practicum. After that, I made a lesson plan and consulted back to the supervisor.
At the time of teaching practice, I referred to the lesson plan that had been made previously. My supervisor also followed my learning in class. After that, there is a reflection where the supervisor provides suggestions and input related to teaching practice to improve my next lesson.
At UTSS, besides teaching practice, I also have a chance to do the homeroom class. In this session, I have to check the student's attendance and give today's important information in the morning. In the afternoon, I do the cleaning session with the students.

Outcomes of Practicum
From this teaching practice, I gained various meaningful experiences. With various inputs and suggestions from supervisors, I learned many things related to time management, classroom management, and teaching skills that I had never learned before. I learned to apply learning models and methods as well as harmonize the material and assignments given to students to achieve learning objectives. From this program, I learned a lot that enriched my experience in teaching. After this program, I believe that my teaching skills have improved and can be a provision for me when I become a teacher in the future.

The Challenges of Practicum
At UTU
My biggest challenge when going through this program was my confidence. Teaching abroad at the senior high school level was my first experience. At first I lacked confidence in teaching, but thanks to the advice and input and motivation provided by supervisors and students there, I was able to increase my confidence.

Overall Impression
The teaching practicum at UTSS went very well and provided valuable experience for the student teachers. The whole series of activities were organized, even the specific schedule of activities was delivered before the program began. The teachers and students were very welcoming and kind, always helping us when we faced problems in class or outside the classroom. All the activities that I did in this program became a very valuable and unforgettable experience.
Suggestions
The whole program went very well and was organized, there were no significant problems. My suggestion is that perhaps this program can continue to be carried out by attracting more universities and schools in Japan and ASEAN, because the more backgrounds, cultures, and countries there are, the richer the experience for student teachers and students in schools.
